The GRAD STUDENTS' GROUP is a group for gay, lesbian, bisexual, trans-identified, and queer grad students and their friends. The group welcomes Ottawa grad students from any university as well as law students, students taking a second degree and, of course, friends. We meet socially about every other week.

The Grad Group holds elections every September as we start the new academic year.  All positions for the 2008-2009 academic year are up for election.  Nominations and self-nominations can be made to glbtq@ottawagradgroup.com.  In particular, the Grad Group invites nominations for a new president.   

Positions traditionally include:

    * President: first signing officer; chairs meetings of the organizing committee, assists the Treasurer in writing the budget, acts as a general point of accountability for the group (must be a grad student)

    * Carleton University Vice-President: liason with Carleton University GLBT centre and grad students' association; in charge of postering and communications on-campus (must be a Carleton University grad student)

    * University of Ottawa Vice-President: liason with University of Ottawa GLBT centre and grad students'association; in charge of postering and communications on-campus (must be an OttawaU grad student or law student)

    * Treasurer: second signing officer; responsible for financial administration, budget (this position is open to anyone)

    * Social coordinator: organizes bi-weekly social events (this position is open to anyone)

    * Academic coordinator: head of the committee organizing academic talks and brown bag lunches; liason with Lambda Foundation, queer studies programs, and other academic organizations (must be a grad student)

    * Public relations officer: administer group web site and newsletter, liason with Capital Xtra and other community publications (this position is open to anyone)

    * Translator: translates announcements and other items from English into French as required (this position is open to anyone)

QUEER STUDIES
The grad group periodically hosts academic talks at the Ottawa Public Library.  We provide the venue, take care of advertizing, and host a small reception.  If you have ideas for a talk or know of a good speaker, contact our academic coordinator at academic_coordinator@ottawagradgroup.com.  Volunteers welcome.
